Hi guys.
I have been working on writing material for my website for quite some time now and it has finally come to me putting it all together...
I worked on this front index page today and I wanted some honest opinions about how it looks.
Unfortunately I am undecided on a server yet so screencaps will have to do :)
I am used to doing graphic heavy sites for friends so I personally am worried that it looks too boring, others might say 'professional' I just need opinions...
I will most likely include photos further down the page (dog of the week or something), and there will definitely be photos on other pages (eg: demo photos of cutting dogs nails on 'health' page)
Don't be afraid to be harsh, I can take it ;)
EDIT - Also... does anyone know how to get that "Zwinky" and "Smiley Central" crap off my browser??

I like it. :)
It does look like a business site rather than a Myspace or Facebook page which is a huge plus for me. It also looks like it will be easy to navigate and actually find the services the customer/client is looking for.

Thanks for the input Cat!
I was trying to make it easy to find all the information, I guess I got that part right :D
I have been looking at a LOT of dog websites lately and most of them are covered with advertising (more ads than content!) or are just generally hard to navigate and find what you are looking for.
I have yet to find a free server that doesn't have any ads so mine will have at least one advertisement/banner on it somewhere, but I can live with that for now.

I agree with Cat, it does look easy to navigate, but for some reason I don't like the blue and green together, but that's just me.
I also like the paws and the font you used.
I also like how you have the 10 most popular breeds list.
Well that's my .02

You're welcome. :)
I don't think it is the advertisements (those are a necessity of doing business) that bother me on some sites as much as not being able to figure out which is the advertisement and which is the information I am looking for.
For example: A link that is supposedly about proper nutrition takes you to a page of dog food/treat ads. There is absolutely no added content other than companies and their products or there is one small block at the bottom of the page that mentions chocolate is bad for dogs.
I do think you are on the right track so far. :)

Thanks Sarah...
I wanted something bold but not too blinding...
I will take it into consideration definitely, it's not hard to change the color as I have only done this front page, might play around with a few different combinations.
I get what you mean Cat... I hate it when that happens!
You think you have found some great information on a site only to be lead away to a different site... none of that for me!
I am unsure on whether to recommend certain brands/products, but if I do end up doing so I will make a point of saying that 'the link provided will take you off-site' and give the link to the official website for the product.

How about changing the second banner to look like grass? Dog in a yard kind of thing.

I LOVE that idea, definitely going to test that out and see how it looks.
Thanks KISS!

I agree with the others, with regards to clean appears and easy to navigate. Personally, I like the green & blue, as it seems to 'pop.' The use of the paw-prints on the headers is a nice touch. Simple elements like that go a long way.
