I have tried to talk with this famiily member. I am to my breaking point. If a child's mother is addicted to perscription medication, it is altering the mother and the child's quality of life. She has recently went to the ER complaining about things being wrong with her and then leaving upset that they would not give her any "pain meds" Isn't that a true sign of a desperate addiction? There is no heat in the home, no stove to cook food on. Mounds of clothes dirty and clean laying all over (I consider this a fire hazard?) No washer or dryer, mattresses on the floor. I feel there are development issues with the child. The child was behind on immunizations until another family member stepped in and took the mother and child to the pediatric office. The mother is getting evicted from where she lives, she does get assistance the food is gone in no time due to all of the people that "hang out" at the house. Then she is trying to borrow money from family members or let you use her food stamp card if you give her cash. Do I make the call? Will they see it as a probable case to come and investigate?

I would. There is some serious child neglect going on here.

I would especially since you have concerns about the mother abusing prescription meds.
