Hi, I recently lost water pressure in my home to the point where I have no running water. I am on a drilled well and use a pumptrol pressure switch with a Xtrol pressure tank. I've been able to get the pressure back up to 30 psi manually however whenever I run the water it rapidly decreases back to 0 psi and the pump does not kick on when it decreases. I've gone as far as switching my pumptrol switch and have adjusted the in and out control switches ans still have had no results. Any suggestions

Possibly your switch is not functioning. Have you pulled the grey cover off the switch and checked out the contact points? They should be closed if the pump is supposed to be on. If not, then remove the switch from the little pipe it is connected to and check to be sure the pipe is not blocked with crud. If the pipe is open, then it sounds like the switch is a goner and needs to be replaced.

However, the kicker in this thing is that your switch has a "fail safe" mechanism which turns the switch off if the pressure drops to 10# below the cut in point. This is to prevent your pump from running when it is dry. The switch "assumes" this since the pressure has dropped so low. So, it may be that the switch is doing it's job. Help us out by answering a few questions:

Will the pump get pressure up to anything over 30#?
What kind of pump is this, submersible or above ground?
Do you know how old the pump is and how far down it is?

With the gray cover still in place hit the damn thing on top with the plastic end of a long screwdriver. If no results break out the volt meter. But be careful 220 hurts like hell even worse if your standing in water, speaking not of experience about the water part or I wouldn't be typing this now.
