I'm 16 years old and got my first period at 12. The first few cycles were very regular, exactly 28 days from one to the next. Since I turned 13, they are irregular, and I only get one every 6-8 weeks. I don't get any major issues with them, apart from some clotting, and my cramps are mild and I only get them for the first day or two. However, I gain weight easily, and I'm always tired. My skin isn't too bad excluding a few breakouts, but have either very dry or very oily hair. Could this be a hormonal imbalance/hypothyroidism?

If my periods are irregular should I consider seeing about getting birth control?

Also, is there anyway I can postpone my period so I won't get it while travelling from Scotland to Canada next month?

Thank you in advance

I'm 19 years old and got my period when I was 13. I've always had major cramping, bloating, my hair gets really oily, and I have the occasional breakout. Another thing... my period has only been REGULAR 2 months in a row... EVER. It's always a few days early or late and I've never really minded. In my opinion, you should only use birth control if you're sexually active- not to try and control your period, because it doesn't always work that way. It takes at least 3 months for your period to become regular on birth control- on top of that, you get spotting between periods, and the risk of getting dangerous blood clots. If you are sexually active (I hope you're not at your age) then go somewhere to get educated on birth control and maybe try it. I don't know of any way of postponing your period- birth control won't do it since it takes at least 3 months for period to get regular- as I said before.
