Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get dog odour from the house? Laminate and carpet flooring.

What kind of odor? Wet dog smells or poop/urine?
Normally there isn't an odor, unless there has been a problem or just a wet dog, which will go away with open windows.

Is it the actual dog that smells or is it urinating/defacating in the house?

Like Dahlia said a healthy dog should not smell unless being given an incorrect diet.

If you have already tried carpet cleaning products and odor eliminating sprays try sprinkling a little baking soda on your carpet before vaccuuming. It soaks up any moisture as well as removing odor.

The smell is like wet dog. Actually - at this point - don't own the house. Just considering buying it, but don't want to if can't get the smell out.

So the dog isn't yours, it's just the house that smells?

If it's in the carpet then you may have to steam clean, even then, if the dog has been using the carpet as a potty, it may be hard to get rid of the smell.

I'd request that all the carpets be cleaned and all the walls washed. Of course, the smell could just be in the furniture, which means that it will be gone when they leave.

Had to spread the love carrot booty! :)
I would also request that the carpet and side floor boards be removed, just in case.

We had a cat once that decided to mark everything and we removed all and then the odor was gone.

If it gets in the tacking board for the carpet, it will be there forever.

It sounds like it's just wet Dog, and that will go away with cleaning and air.:)

When my family and I bought our house the carpet in my sister's room smelled like dogs. We tried so many things that didn't work. The one thing that finally worked was Pet Fresh carpet powder. You can buy it any place that sells carpet deordorizer. You can also rent a carpet shampooing machine from an appliance store like home depot and use it before or after you put the powder on. Also make sure you keep the powder on the carpet for a day or two and put more over the carpet if you need to.

We are having the same issue. Just bought the house, but - get this - EVERYTHING in it is brand new. The carpets and padding were replaced. All the floors are new, and the entire place was repainted and it STILL smells like dog. What else can we do? Carpet cleaner won't help this one.

Do you have an airconditioning system or ducted heating?

If so I would look there for the source of the doggy smell.

My sister just got new carpets in her house. One room reeked of dogs and cats. The carpet people just sprayed the floor with bleach and cleaned it before instaling the carpet. It smells fine now.

Hi I have a dog and she is not potty trained but to get rid of the smell is easy don't cover the smell up with chemicals... u need to scub it out... use
viniger
Bleach
It works and open the windows don't spray crap in the air that will make the air smell worse... for carpets is easy use a sponge and dawn dishwasher soap and scrub the pee pee spot and after scubing for 1 min leave it alone for 30 min and wipe it of.

I have to agree. THat Arm and Hamor pet powder stuff works awesome. Also they have this stuff made by Hartz, and it is a pet odor and stain remover. Make sure it is the Hartz one. All you do is spray the carpet, if you have a stain rub it with a clean dry cloth, wait for it to dry and then vacume. Works like a charm. For really tough smells you may have to repeat once or twice.

I second the reply recommending Zero Odor. Works great. On stinky sports stuff too.

I was told by my Vet that any type of carpet powder which is not vaccuumed up after a very short period can be inhaled by the dog and is very dangerous.

I don't know what warnings are on Carpet Fresh.

Yes all the ones I have seen here say to vacuum them up straight away.
Not only for my dogs health but for mine too, my allergies would go haywire!

I think the op is trying to get rid of the odor from the previous owner's dog, but if there still is a dog than it probably would be bad to leave it around. The pet fresh carpet powder is pretty much the same as regular deodorizer I think.
