Hey,

Recently inherited a vintage craftsman riding mower, that had been sitting idle for a couple of years, model 502 255092 with the Techumseh 10 hp engine. After cleaning it up a bit and charging the battery I was able to get the motor to start, although the starter seems a bit weak (may need to work on the electrical connections a bit as they are dirty and the battery seems to get pretty hot), however, I am not able to get the engine to stay running in any throttle position besides full choke. I thought the throttle might be gunked up, tried spraying the carb down pretty good with carb cleaner, but no joy as of yet. Any suggestions?

Cheers,
M

More than likely you will need to take the carb apart and clean all the parts individually and clean out all the ports. After sitting for years it is probably pretty gummed up.

Hi,
I would say it is the jet, and it is probably the circuit through the jet that is just above the lower threads and is a diagonal hole that feeds the slow speed circuit.
Manual not available, but prats breakdown is here:
Murray rm Parts Diagram Index for 502.255092 (http://www.partsandservice.com/html/Murray/rm/rm502.255092.html)
It is made by Murray.
