My husband and I are separating. We own our own home and we are both on the title. He owns a construction business which is limited. We have made an agreement for how much each of us will receive if we decide to sell our house( nothing is in writing yet) He now wants me to take my name off the house and be put on as a co signer of some sort(I have forgotten the proper lingo here.)Then put a lien on the house for the amount that we have agreed upon if we should sell our house. The reason for this is to protect me finacially in case any business client should go after my husband. He says they could go after me too. Is he right and is this a good idea? And is it hard to claim a lien? We live in BC Canada Any info would be helpful

Suggestion;

Ask him to take his name off the deed. He could then fill a lien against the property in his name. That way you both would insulated against the possible business creditors.
