Hi

I was arrested for shoplifting two months ago from a retail store. A police officer came, read me the arrest warrant, but said he was not going to lay charges. He did say that this would be on my record, but depending on the depth of the background check done by my employer, this incident may just show up as a warning.

My questions:

1) For school board background checks, what will show up on a criminal check? Will this affect employment (e.g. resulting in you not being allowed to work with children)?

2) How long will this incident remain on my record? Will it automatically be purged after a certain time? If not, how do I go about getting a clean record again?

3) Two weeks ago, I received in the mail a Civil Recovery demand letter from the retailer, stating I pay a fine by the end of September. I paid the fine (by authorizing the funds from my credit card). I mailed my payment the next day. I have been checking my credit card statements and so far, this money has not been debited. I am worried that my payment may have gotten lost in the mail. I do not want to miss my payment deadline. How long should I continue checking my credit card statements for this transaction?

Thank you so much.
