This 98 Dodge Dakota will turn over and run as long as I'm giving it gas but as soon as I let off it goes dead?

That sounds like a dirty throttle bore. It may just need cleaned.

Once the engine is warmed up to normal operating temperature, spray the throttle plate and bore with a quality throttle plate cleaner. Keep the engine running to burn off the cleaner.
Re-test to see if the engine will idle on it's own.
If that doesn't work, you may need to have the injectors professionally cleaned.
Do not put the cute bottle into the tank, thinking that will properly clean dirty injectors... that stuff is best suited only to help keep healthy injectors clean.

. Replace the fuel filter, if it has not been changed in the last 25,000 miles.

. Clean throttle plate, throttle body, and Idle Air Control Valve:

Afterwards, clean the air box and replace the air filter.

. Replace spark plugs, with the exact Champion plugs that came in the truck, if they have not been changed in a while.
