How can a foreign laywer who just moved to the US practice immigration law? Is it true that if for example you passed the NY bar exams you can practice immigration law since it is a federal law?

To practice Federal law in the US you must be admitted to the Federal Bar. I worked for several attorneys in Florida who were admitted to the Federal Bar. You must get admitted prior to practicing any immigration law.

Admission to any US state bar will allow you to practice as immigration law is Federal.
