I'm kind of taking a break to get things straight before going to college, if I go. I've been looking at some schools online to figure out options for the future. When I shared one I was considering with my mother, she said that she thinks you have less of a chance of being accepted to a college or university if you have been out of high school six months to a year already. Is there any truth to that?

I don't think they would really care if you took time off. You just have to have your transcripts mailed to the college. A lot of people go to college 10+ years after high school. I go to a community college and there are a lot of older people in my classes.
