Good evening, I have a verbatim 250 GB hard drive. Every time I put it into the usb port on my computer,it won't read. Once in a while if it wants it will read, but whenever it wants, it shuts down. How can I fix this problem? I do have things on the hard drive that I need.

Try the drive on another computer to determine whether it is the drive or a USB issue. Then, if it is the drive, pull the drive out of the external enclosure and connect it directly to the computer internally. If the problem persists, the drive itself may be failing. If not, perhaps the enclosure if flaky.
