I live in Pennsylvania. My daughters father signed paternity papers in 1991. We were unmarried at the time of her birth however we married when she was 6 months old. We divorced 6 years ago and I've been trying to get child support since.

Family division finally found him. He now denies paternity and we've had a paternity test conducted. I received paper work from the courts to appear for results and POSSIBLE child support action (this is the wording on the paper). Would we be having a hearing if the results of the paternity test were negative? Wouldn't the courts just send paper work saying the results were negative, if they were?

Probably. So go to the hearing.

Just go to the hearing because the courts around here anyway, will have a hearing even if the results are negative so that all involved are present at the time of announcement. It's just another way to make it more official. However, if you are sure the results are positive they it dosen't really matter anyway. So just go.

No, many courts since the tests were ordered though the courts will require you to appear for the results.

Is there a reason to believe he is not the father? If so was that person also tested to find out for sure who is??

Also why have you waited so long for support hearigs

I didn't wait to file for child support BUT he moved out of state (AZ)... I filed for child support in PA and waited. There was a bench warrant issued and I thought that would take care of it and he would be arrested! WRONG! I work and just did what I had to do... take care of my child! About 4 years ago I was laid off and called the family division to see what could be done. That is when they told me I needed to file in the state where HE lived! OMG! I couldn't believe no one told me before that! AND by the way PA served him in AZ the first time! SOOOO... long story short it took another 3 years for AZ to find him and NOW he wants a paternity test! I asked in 1991, when my daughter was born, if he wanted a paternity test and he said "No". He signed the papers and I thought it was a done deal! Oh well, guess he changed his mind! The sad thing is is that through ALL of this, anytime he has been back this way to visit family he sees his daughter and she has gone to see him a couple of times! And did I mention he was around until she was 10yrs old! If it were up to me I would have said FORGET IT... I've raised her and she's in college now! BUT my daughter wanted it done so I complied!

He has me second guessing myself! I was only with him 1 1/2 month before I was pregnant! I was not with anyone else once we met but I keep going over and over in my mind...

Now once last question if anyone can answer this! IF he is NOT the father do they remove his name from the birth certificate? We had that changed in 1991 too!

No its not an automatic thing. The courts will have to approve it and send an order out to the records dept to get it changed.
