My boyfriend is 22 years old and has been driving in New York with an expired license from New Hampshire. It has been expired for almost 2 years and after the 2 year point they said he will have to start the process of getting a license from the beginning. We went the dmv and they said he just has to pay to get it renewed and changed to a nys one. He was going to do that today but he couldn't find it.
If he can't find it can they look it up on the computer and see that he's being honest or will he have to start the whole process over again?

I'm confused - his license in New Hampshire is expired.

He's in NY and driving.

He has no valid (unexpired) Driver's License.

I do not believe NY can "tap" in the NH DMV and verify what he is saying. I think he has to either find it or start all over.

I am also surprised that NY - which is very tough - is willing to give him a reciprocal license based on an expired NH license. Are you sure that NY isn't saying you can get a valid NY license if you had a NY license that expired less than two years ago?

If he lost it he will have to start all over again as states like to get the old license back, even if it's expired.

PS Let me guess. His vehicle plates are out of date and he has no insurance either.
