I sent in my amended 2008 taxes on or around 6/22 for the home owners credit. How long does it take to receive that money usually?

The norm is 6-to-8 weeks, but the IRS has been overwhelmed with a LOT of amendments this year, so the new average time (as announced by the IRS) is between 10-to-14 weeks.

Be patient; you WILL get the refund eventually.

IRS is checking every return with homebuyer's credit carefully to avoid frauds. Even more than 16 weeks processing time is normal. Your U.S. Tax Return: First-Time Homebuyer Credit (http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2009/01/first-time-homebuyer-credit.html)

Per the IRS website, under Hot Issues August 5, 2009 they state the following:

Processing delays for Forms 1040X

The IRS is experiencing higher than expected inventory levels of Forms 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Returns. Due to these inventory levels, the processing timeframe is temporarily extended to 12 - 16 weeks (normal processing time is 8 - 12 weeks). Contacting the Service regarding the status of the return is not necessary and the returns will be processed as soon as possible.

This information can be found by going to their website, www.irs.gov, typing in "Hot Issues", in the search box, and clicking on IMRS Hot Issues, its at the bottom of the page.

Three to four months does NOT surprise me one bit.
