I have a four year old border collie. Well at least that's what it said on her kennel when I adopted her but she doesn't look like a border collie at all. She;s some kind of mutt though. Anyway, I've noticed that she's been biting at her paws a lot. They seem irritated or something, because she digs deep in between her toes with her teeth and she really bites and chews. I looked at her paws and it looks pinkish red in between her toes (I checked a paw that she hadn't been chewing on). I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to look but I'm worried she might have some kind of infection. Can anyone tell me what it is?

It sounds like she might have allergies. Best bet is to go to the vet - if she bothers them enough, they will become infected and end up costing you a lot more.
Good luck!
Alternately it can be boredom, but it would be best to rule out something such as allergies first.

Does he also scratch? Could it be dry skin?
My dog scratches and chews on his feet. We narrowed it down to allergies in the summer and dry skin pretty much all the time, which we are supplementing with certain food.:)

My dogs do this all the time, more so in the winter because of the snow and the dry air.

I started putting aloe vera on their paws whenever they started doing this, it seems to help. Not the aloe vera with additives, just natural aloe.

But, having said that, it's always best to get a vets opinion just in case it's something more serious.

I'm with everyone on the vet.
There area a lot for things it could be.

However, if the skin appears red and weepy (not dry) you can do salt washes until you can get her to a vet.
My mother in laws dog had an infected nail, she just filled her bath up with warm water about an inch, added some sea salt and stood the dog in the water for a few minutes several times a day.
The irritation had completely gone I na few days.
