The twist plug on my bath is not working I have taken it off the front of bath and removed bath panel to get to the bit where the twist handle sits in but I can not see what to do now.

Yes that is what I'm talking about, I can not get the handle off the screw in bit to tighten it up

If this is the handle,(see image) you want to get off to tighten up you're out of luck.
The lever's secured be why a spring. Go to a hardware store and purchase a new one. Ask for a Chrome faceplate for a tub waste and overflow. Good luck, Tom
