A friend's e machine is slower than slow... they are on dsl-extreme. Their 5 yr old computer indicates 2.7 processor speed and only 512k ram. I've got some other ram that might fit but I haven't opened their e machine cabinet yet.
I know the e machines were priced near the bottom... but does anyone know if the memory is upgradeable?

It should be, I doubt they would limit the mem to 512, if anything, you would be able to replace the 512 with a 1gb chip
What model is the PC?

Sorry, don't have model number with me. I'd rather slip in a second 512k 'cause I have an extra... but I'll buy a gig if necessary... thanks.

As long as the memory matches what is installed, you should be find, don't force chip in slot, if it fits, just plug in firmly and if PC boots, you should be up to 1gb with 2-512mb chips installed
If does not boot, you should get some sort of beep codes which will basically tell you that there is mismatched memory installed
