My HVAC units fan motor had to be replaced. I pulled the old motor, while taking photos of the wiring during the removal so that it would be easy to install the new motor. Well, Yeah right!! The new motor has different color wires and different number of wires. The old motor had a white and a black going to the relay, and a brown and brown-white going to a capacitor. The new motor has RED, BLACK, ORANGE, BROWN, PURPLE. The red and black indicates on the motor wiring diagram to be Hi and Low (See attached photo of new motor). The new motor is an SE3465, and the HVAC unit is an old Goodman model#CK30-1T. Can anyone help me here?

After looking at the wiring diagram on the new motor I am thinking the following:
Black on the new motor will go where the black from the old motor was going to.
Purple and Brown from the nw motor will go where the brown & brown-white was going to from the old motor.
Orange from the new mototr will go to where the white was going to from the old motor.
Red from the new motor will be capt off.

CAN SOMEONE CONFIRM..

THANK YOU!

The factory motor for that unit is a ONE speed so I would have no idea how you would select the correct speed. The correct speed is EXTREMELY important since the fan size and pitch is designed for the speed of the motor and the exact horse power developed.

My first recommendation is to return the motor and get the correct one for the unit. The reason is many folks have posted in a similar situation as you. The wrong HP along with a heavy pitch blade will overheat the motor and cause problems on the other hand too much HP can cause the blade to move to fast which can cause the unit pressures to change.
