We have a Janitrol furnace that was installed in the 1970's. We have lived in the house for 5 years and it hasn't been serviced until now. Prior to us living here, the previous owner's did have a maintenace contract in which it was serviced earch year, but I'm not sure for how long.

We've had an HVAC repairman out 2 times in the last 3 weeks. The problem was that our AC line was freezing up and continuing to run, but the furnace blower was not running. I was told that the freon was low and the blower motor needed replaced. He did both of those things and it ran for a little while and quit again. Next he changed the furnace relay. We thought it was finally fixed so he left. That night it quit again. He had mentioned to my husband that the thermostat was old and should be replaced. My husband purchased one from Lowe's and replaced. It seemed to work for about a day and then we had the same problem again. On the 2nd visit, he replaced the furance relay again as well as the capacitor in the AC unit itself. It ran normal for 4 days. Then today we encountered the same problem. I'm at my wit's end with this guy, who has pushed us from the beginning to let him replace the entire unit. I do not agree with replacing the entire thing unless it is really worth it. We've spent about $500 already and I can't keep paying this jack@$$ to come out and not really fix it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be wrong? I was researching on the internet and some posting say it could be a bad run capacitor. I asked the guy if he checked it and he says he put a brand new one on. Does a motor come with a brand new run capacitor? Its just strange that he said he did, when I do not recall him saying that he did. I really don't want to spend $100 for a tester either. HELP!
