I have a side-by-side fridge that I paid about $1000.00 for five years ago. It is made by a big name company. Ihad to have it worked on once before, now the same repairman is telling us it is a lemon. Iknow that refridgerators can last for years and should last for years. And a friend who teaches consumerizm told me there is lemon laws on appliances. Does anyone know what these laws are?

If you have had this fridge for 5 years and you only had it worked on once - you definitely do not have a lemon appliance. Sorry. A lemon appliance would be an appliance that you bought brand new and it never worked right from day one. I had a brand new side by side that never worked right from day one. Had factory service people over within the first 2 weeks and could not get working properly. I got a brand new replacement of the same model by the side by side maker and I got a check for the food that was runied as well. Now, that was a real lemon side by side. Your repairperson needs a refresher course in just what a lemon appliance is.

First, at least in the US, there are almost no lemon laws for anything but auto and many states don't even have them.
Next as noted it would be on something you just bought, two repairs in 5 years is not a lemon by any means.
Sounds more like a dishonest repair guy wanting to sell you a new fridge

Thanks for giving me some great advice. You have gave me new direction, on what path to take now. I will have another repairman look at it. You don't know how much you saved me. My husband hasn't worked since his open heart surgery almost two years ago, and this has really depressed me because I have a five year old son in the house that I need to feed, and it is so hard doing it out of a cooler. Now I have hope that maybe things will work out.
