This is a sample of text that is converted to symbols
" \ * . * ‘|ÜY øø ‡ 2‘|E x è† ,‰ î|<‡ 2‘|E x ‡ æ ‘|X‰ î|h‡ 2‘|E x @‡ |‡ „‰ î|8‘|ÿÿÿÿ2‘|« ‘|ë ‘| ¤Œ 8 M „… ıÜ|Œş î|¬‡ < ‘|ÜY À‡ Ìğ€|ÜY :%|äŠ ¤Š ¥ï€|À H ¸ï€| (ˆ @ äŠ hf :! ` ìı :! ş \Š 8 ‘|– ‘|ë ‘|ÈY E ‘|N ‘|¼‹ $ ¨‰ A‘| ğı €ˆ ú‘|E ‘|N ‘|è‹ 3 ‘|%pN @ @ @ „ˆ ¬ˆ ¼ˆ • ‘| @ "

You opened the document with the incorrect program, probably NotePad.

Change the suffix on the name of the document.
- Left mouse click, scroll down to rename, click rename, change from Letter.XXXX to Letter.doc

You should then be able to open it as a Word document.

Or you can try left mouse click
-Scroll down to open with, double click on MS Word.
