I've written millions of words over the years, and I don't think anyone has ever stolen them.

One of the things I find interesting in a writing class is how differently everyone will treat the same subject. Once we had to do an exercise where the teacher read out half a sentence, and we continued on. Every single person in the class had a different take on it.

What can happen is that several people come up with a similar idea around the same time, usually sparked by the same event, but it's very unlikely that any two will write about it the same way.
