I'm going to assume that your textbook has some specific, probably over-simplifed, method that they expect you to follow. Which also means someone outside of your textbook isn't going to know what that is. Unless of course we can see example problems -- and even then books can over-simplify or make things more complicated. That's just a very broad topic.

The basic concept is making sure your costs are covered and that you have a profit. And that can be simple if you're working out of your home doing a service with only a computer and some supplies and a phone, but very, very complicated if you're doing manufacturing, especially of several lines of products.
