I have a Gibson electric dryer with a pigg-back washer on the bottom. I have tried the following:

1.Tested for continuity on high limit therostat, thermostat heater, control thermostat and thermal limiter. I used a multimeter for continuity.

2. I tested the heating element. I tested the prongs with a multimeter, there was continuity. However, when I tested the actual heating element coil, I have to strecth the coil with the multimeter prongs in order to get a good continuity test. I would have thought that by just touching the heating element coil with the multimeter that I would get a good continuity test. I had to giggle the coil around to get a good continuity test. I wonder if the heating coil is bad or intermittent?

3. Tested the fabric select knob and the timer know. Seems to be working.

I have 2 questions, (1) Is the heating element coil good even though I had to strecth the coil in order to get a reading; (2) Is there anything else that I can try/test?

With an Amprobe and Voltmeter, if you have voltage at element and no current, it is open.
With a Meter set to volts, you can follow the voltage back from the element, and you can place across thermals to see if open, 120 if open and zero volts if intact.
