View Full Version : John deere 160 won't restart hot

I have a john deere 160 tractor with 12.5hp kawasaki engine.
It starts & runs fine, but after it is hot (normal running temp) it will not restart if shut off.
It will crank like crazy but it does not have spark. Any thoughts?
Also, sometimes it will stutter going uphill, like the belt or a transmission gear is slipping.
Does anyone have the belt adjustment instructions?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Mike

Hi,
It is probably your coil or trigger or both. Your engine has a little silver trigger on the right side (white wire plugged into it.) You describe the effect of heat from a hot engine rising up to fail a marginal coil; the engine stops cooling when stopped because the flywheel has the fan attached and it is no longer spinning.
No adjustment on the belt, but I might suspect the transaxle anyway at the age it is, 20+.
Peace,
Clarke
