Hi there, in 2003 my mother was renting two units from a landlord and offered to let me live in one rent free while I was attending college. The manager had me sign a form that stated I was an adult living in the unit but I never signed a lease. I moved out of the place in 2004 and my mother was still renting both units. Recently on my credit report I have seen a civil judgment related to that address. How could the landlord sue me when I never signed a lease and I was not fiscally responsible for the apartment and is there anything I can do to get that off my credit record?

Lol, when I first saw your question "am I responsible" and the first line said "in 2003 my mother..." I thought like "are you a responsible person?", then I read on... :p

I may be wrong on this, and someone will correct me if I am, but I think you could be.

Depending on what the "form that stated [you were] an adult living in the unit", said, then you may be. The way I imagine it, then you would be responsible for paying for any damages to the apartment, as you never had a safety deposit or anything. I would think that if you were the last person to be registered as living there before your mother stopped paying rent, though.

It may also depend on where you live, as state/local laws may change that.

So, what did the "form" you signed say, and where are you for any legal situations.
