My current phone is a hiptop slide and I've come to an agreement that I want it cancelled asap. I've had a few phones but I find this kind to be a horrible breed. There has been many problems with it that I've found surprising. There's one very frustrating problem that occurs occasionally where my phone will shut off by itself, and when I'm finally able to turn it back on most of my data has been deleted. The only remaining data is my wallpapers, tones, contacts and games and apps. My parents have also had recent problems with telstra phones and have gone down to our local tesltra shop, where they informed my rents that they can cancel their current contract but it will come to a fee of $200 max. my my agreed on the fee, however when they sent it to her the fee came to a total of $700. When my mum confronted our telstra shop about the situation they said they didn't handle the fees. Isn't this illegal in any way?
I also decided to write a letter to the telstra services, however it won't send through:

I was wondering if it's possible for me to cancel my hiptop plan (after approx a year of payment) and use the money that I have paid for the hiptop, to go onto a different phone contract. I want to transfer it onto a Nokia E71 plan if possible. If I am unable to do so, is there any other way I can change my phone without having to finish paying the hiptop contract and spending as little amount of money as possible. I have had trouble with my hiptop slide since day 1 (there was a problem with the sim card) and since then the problems have escalated. I would appreciate an answer that looks at all options that I can choose from. I was told by not only other hiptop users, but also a Telstra staff member that the hiptop slide was a good phone. However, when I started using it I was appalled at the problems it has caused. I have been told of good reports of Telstra phones, but unfortunately however it's been a big let down. Please help me as I’d love to stay a Telstra user, but the phone problems are making me think otherwise.

Am I coming on as threatening? I'd love to go down to our local shop but id like some advice from the main people of telstra. After hearing some stories about them I'm a bit nervous about whether they'll catch me out to? I'm only 16 and know that some business people have tried to use me to their advantage because of my age. A guy once tried to sell me austar when I was in the middle of work..
Is what they've done to my parents illegal in anyway? And do you think they'll allow me to do a phone transfer?

You can buy any phone at the Telstar store. If you buy your phone anywhere else like Wal Mart you have to make sure it is compatible with Telstar because
Nokia, Samsung and other phones are sold for different service plans but each phone is only wired for one service provider.

Your contract is for the service provider not the phone itself... unless they are doing something entirely different and doing contracts for hiptop phones... which I have never heard of any cell phone store doing a contract for any phone itself.
