My husband received a :p fully favoriable decision on SSDI not ssi. He has worked since he was 17 years old. Anyway he is disabled and ssa award his disability to him July 27, 2006 and it is know October 19, 2006 and he has not received nothing from them. He is suppose to receive 4 years of backpay and the kids are to. But we haven't received nothing. Does anybody know how long it is suppose to take to receive benefits. And is there a law on how long they can wait to send you your benefits. I did call my congressman and he called a put a congressial inquiry on it. I hope that helps. So if anybody knows about the questions I asked please help me understand why they haven't issued his money.:( :(

Thanks allot

You know government takes a long time to do anything unless it is for the government. I would keep calling the office to see what the hold up is.

Hope I can help... has your husband set up a bank account to receive the funds as of yet, and notified the Social Security Department with the account number and Routing number. This is an absolute necessity, as the funds, for the most part anymore, are not sent in check form. They are transferred into a bank account. I was disabled twelve years ago, but my brother rec'd his notice and it took approximately 6 months from the "date" of award... maybe a bit sooner... and you would definitely want SSD instead of SSI, the amount of award is much higher. This is "a good thing" as "martha" would say... and the "lump sum" will be deposited directly into the checking or savings account your husband sets up for himself. If you have one already, you want to call Social Security, (check the phone book for your local number) and inform them of the account number and routing number. The Bank can give you the Routing number.

Hope this helps... good luck to you... the Back Award should make this a nice Christmas and help you pay off the debts you've probably incurred!

Have you gone into the SSA office and confronted them in person? Did you have a lawyer assist in applying for SSDI/SSI? Was your husband getting any local state financial assistance? Some of these things may cause delays, but me, I would walk right into the SSA office with all documents in hand and confront them in person. I've tried to call many times, as a representative of a state agency, and have never received a phone call back or was able to speak to a worker directly. Calling stinks.

I to am disabled, however I sign up in aug 2006 and started drawing oct 2006. I had no problem. There are many factors to recieveing ssdi or even ss as a matter of fact. If every thing is in order it goes right through, but in your case you are going to have to stop burning daylight and confront them with the paperwork they sent you.

SSI or suplemental security income is only awarded if the ssd, social security disability insurance payment is somewhere under $600 a month.

Keep calling social security until you get an answer. If the person does not answer your question well, ask to speak to a supervisor.

Keep track of all the names of people you talk to at SSD.

If it has been two years since the onset of his disability he should qualify for Medicare.

This is unusual. They typically send payment within a month or so as a policy. There is no law of which I know which limits the time between award and payment.

It would have been faster to contact SSA directly by telephone, followed up by a letter. Going the Congressional route sometimes slows down the process since the file is pulled out of line such that the agency is unable to process it until after the Congressional is answered.
