The outlet by my front door isn't working. There is a light on it, is that a reset button and what should I do also if you use an outlet to long will that short it out or something I had my pool filter plugged in it for about 12 hours. We also had a storm could that have caused it. When electrical thing don't work it scares me because I'm always afraid of a fire

Sounds like a GFI receptacle with a pilot light. Should have a reset button. Push it.
