Did you go to the vet to get him checked?
What kind of cat is your cat?
Can you post a picture of him?
Are both your cats the same species?

Please answer these questions so I can help you out.

Good Luck!:)

How bad is the hair loss? Just bitty patches here and there, especially around the neck/head/shoulder area? If so, that may just be what one of my cats goes through nearly every year for a couple of months. I've never known if it was just dry skin or allergies. But it isn't anything bad. I put Vitamin E on the scabs partly to help them heal and partly because it softens them and makes them not itch so much. And my vet also just told me that the topical hydrocortisone cream we use for itchy stuff is also safe to put on it. (I assume not in great quantities.) They eventually clear up and he stops itching and the fur grows back.

Actually, for dry skin you can also give like cod or salmon oil. It just doesn't taste as good as it sounds and I have a hard time getting that down him.

If you're talking about something really bad and huge patches, then you need a vet. I would try to avoid steroids if you possibly can. Nasty stuff. You can try the forums here for alternatives:

Whatever it is, it's a symptom of something and just solving the symptom isn't solving the problem.
