When I turn my laptop on I get about 16 beeps then I get the screen that asks me if I want to go into safe mode every time I turn on the computer but there seems to be no problems when I am using the laptop itself.

Do you choose safe mode or just go into normal mode when you get to this point?

Any changes that either happened or that you perhaps made to your computer around the time that the problem started; particularly any Software or Hardware that you installed or setup.

Do you know what BIOS your laptop has?

16 beep codes? Is there some sort of pattern to the beeps?
Like, 2 short - 1 long - 2 short?

Hi thank you for answering the beeps are continuous no short or long. I've had the problem about a year now my brother recommended this site to me as he didn't know what it was. I can't remember that far back as to what I've installed and I don't know what bios it is. Is there a way for me to find this out thank you again regards jacki.:)

Does this happen also when there is nothing attached to the laptop?
-Just the laptop by itself
-Same thing with AC power plugged in or not?
-Also with battery out with just plugged in?

Try all above scenarios with nothing attached to see if same results, if you have not tried these already.

Have you tried to reset the BIOS defaults to see if that would help?

I'm not an expert at beep codes, but it would help to know what kind of laptop you have. That way someone could tell what the beeps mean. And just for fun, you may like PC Hell: BIOS Error Beep Codes (http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml)
And another good one PCGuide - TSX - BIOS Beep Codes (http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/index.htm)
This last one is a little difficult to navigate. Use the left pane to find your BIOS, then in the body you have to search page by page.

TechSpot.com has a nice list too - I think by Tedster (this comes up a lot!).

Good luck.
