Hello. My question is, I have been living with my boyfriend in his home for 14 years. We have a 12 year old daughter together. Does he have the right to throw me out whenever we have a fight?

Bottom line is yes. You are not married so have no real rights unless your state recognizes common law marriages. Even if you are considered a common law wife, you would have to file charges against him AFTER he throws you out.

Also, you are not a tenant unless you are paying rent.

You need to either move out or get your relationship formalized.

If you are not married to him and he has not deeded the house to you, you could be evicted at the home owners pleasure.

If you have lived this long together, I have to ask why are you not married, sounds like someone does not want to risk a commitment.

So if he does not want to be married, he should at least put your name on his deed and have a will leaving you all his property if he dies.

If he is not willing to do that, count that he really does not care about the relationship and does not believe you are going to be there for long.

Does he own the home by himself or is it jointly owned? If it is jointly owned, then of course you have just as much right to be there as he does. If he owns it himself, then is your state a so-called "common law" state? If it is, then legally the home is half yours so you have just as much right to be there as he does. If not, then you're pretty much at his mercy.
