I found this site while researching how to get rid of flying squirrels in my attic, and love the concept and interaction of it. I was just wodering how each of you found it. Was it lost love? A strange rash? A bug in your garden to identify? A legal question? Please share openly how you got invloved with this site please. It should be interesting to see what it was that brought each of us here. Thanks.

I found it because we were having issues with my husband's dog after moving twice. It was hard on him.

I was surfing the internet, looking for a movie but I couldn't remember the title. Out of desperation, I typed a vague description of the movie into Google, and Google found a matching description -in the form of a question- on here. The question was old, but had been answered. The answer was sitting right there for me. Satisfied and amazed, I continued to explore this site, to see if I could perhaps help someone. Next thing I know, I answered one question, then another, and another. After that, I was hooked.

Glad you are out of it too HC.

I came on asking a very embarrassing question in the Women's Health section.
I had exhausted every Google site until I found this one...

I came on, had my question answered, found the dog section and never left!

"How do I forgive him for..."

Move on people, you deserve better!

Hehe cut and paste from my introduction :D

I came here mainly because I googled something (I don't even remember what I was looking for) and it dropped me here then I got to looking around and saw SO many questions that I could answer and help on. Then I got addicted. Its now 3am and I'm still browsing through questions and answering any that I knew the answer to!

I am bi-polar and for those who don't know, its when I swing from being extreamly happy, sometimes euphoric, to deathly depressed. And I was pretty sad tonight when I first came here. But being able to help others going through the same things I am going through, and help other parents who are struggling with their children, or to help other couples with their marriages, and so on and so fourth, has really helped me feel needed and apreciated! I am looking forward to being here a long time. And I hope to become an expert in the mental health board

Aww you guys make me blush.

I'm trying hard to learn the site and stick to the rules, sometimes I get out of hand, but that's why I'm glad I have you guys around, to point me in the right direction. I try not to make the same mistakes twice.

Thanks for the support *hugs*

And yes. I'm definitely addicted. It really does help the depression swings I get, because I truly feel amazing when I am able to help someone get the answers they are looking for. With a 5 year old who feels that she knows everythign and mommy knows nothing, and a husband with a bit of a mental disability who like to believe he is the 'all knowing god of the world' its nice to know that SOMEONE apreciates my advise :P

I had googled a search for some legal information. I was working part-time at a convenience store and was curious about customers who would buy a snack or soda, consume it in the store then hand me the empty container to scan, after which I would take their money and give the their change in the usual manner. I was curious to know whether such an act constituted shoplifting, since they were consuming merchandise before paying for it. It never became an issue practically but I was curious nevertheless.

Yes, letting me know I was doing everything possible.
I eventually changed his food, it's been a couple months, but he still scratches. I think he just has allergies to outside things. It's worse when it's windy or hot.

I was actually trying to find a British problem page site that I'd contributed to years ago, but grown to hate for its sugary paternalistic responses, when AMHD popped up on Google (God bless Google), and I have stayed ever since.

Fortunately with posters like Exon, there are few sugary, or paternalistic for that matter, responses!

And, I got the free set of kitchen knives with my membership...

Anyway, I love all the posters, even the crazy ones - it's the variety that I enjoy.

I came because I was invited. I've been participating on Q&A sites for over 20 years. During the late 90s I started contributing to Askme.Com. That site grew to be one of the best on the Web. It shut down in 2001 or 2002 for reasons I won't go into. At that time I was the top rated technology expert. I'm actually wearing my AskMe.com T-shirt right now.

So I was invited by some of the new sites trying to take AskMe's place to participate. I didn't take to AMHD at first, partly because they just copied AskMe's home page.

But I have to admit the Admins and Mods ;) have done a very good job in making this one of the best places on the WEB to go for help and comradeship.

=)

following a woman is a pleasant way to spend one's time... hate to see you go, love to watch you walk away... preferably in heels and a skirt. Love the "swish"...

back on topic... like I said, I came here for "home repair" help and stayed in that area for a time. Then got into the relationship boards, the science boards (bio and chem degrees here), and then merged into the AS boards.

I really didn't have any prior experience with askme or other help sites before AMHD.

and now, what keeps me coming back is the community. I probably spend half my time still searching for questions to answer, and half my time wasting bandwidth connecting to the people I've met here.

this concludes my AMHD autobiography, condensed version.

You've got to love how Exy gives straightforward no crap answers.

The crazy ones make the site interesting.
As annoying as trolls are when it's a serious issue, sometimes a crazy or two (when not offering dangerous advice) can add a bit of 'zing' :)

I agree with you Scott, I never saw askme.com but I know this site has a real sense of comraderie.

Maybe the thread in which the posts were made were deleted because of a troll...

As for me, I came in here seeking an answer for a chemistry question. Left the site for a mere 4 months, came back for another question, then explored the site. Found a weird thread, about coffee and other stuff... people talked of Disney Land... met HC and firmbeliever then... Started to get 'addicted' to the site, then went to the library less often (I had a connection from the library only). Then came back here after half a year after my first post. Was going to library after school.

No, too often people give advice that protects the OP's "feelings." "Oh, I can't be stern with them because they might get upset and not like me!"

That's crap. Sometimes people's feelings need to get hurt so they realize what ridiculous choices their making. Some of the best advice I've ever gotten hurt my feelings. I cried about it, sucked it up, and then fixed the issue.

I hate how the world is becoming more concerned with "feelings" than actually giving good constructive criticism and finding the solutions to issues.

I bleached my house and was dying of the smell. I didn't know whether or not it could kill me- it's my first thread, didn't receive any replies for it [wait I think one]..yet I'm still here...

Were there any casualties? Clothes, drapes, carpet?

No there was mold in my basement or something like that-- I don't remember what it was but my entire home was bleached.

There was nothing but bad headaches, nausea, dizziness and other fun stuff.

I lived to tell the tale ;)
