I just got my great dane puppy, and I am putting him in his crate at night but he cries hysterically and after about half an hour I forfeit and get him and let him sleep in the living room and I sleep on the couch. He does not mess in the night I make sure that when he wakes up I wake up and walk outside with him and he pees outside. I have had him for several days now and he has only peed in the house once. I'm dooin good with house training him but I'm afraid I'm not doing good with night training him. What do I need to do with/to his crate/him to get him to sleep there at night?

Unfortunately you need to just let him cry through the night. You may have some sleepless nights..

Sadly, giving in may have made it worse. If you continue giving up and letting him out and sleeping with you, he will learn that when he cries and screams in the crate, he will get out.

With mine I put them in the crate and if they cry I go out and in my grumpy voice I tell them "Quiet!" and go back to bed.

Never let them out as (like Sariss said) it teaches them to cry when they want out, not to stop.

Yep, giving in is just going to teach the little guy that if he cries he gets what he wants. We went through this with our puppy too, also a great dane. We didn't show her any attention until she was quiet though, not even to tell her to be quiet. If she was whining we ignored it until she was quiet and then we would let her out.

I did this last night and he slept for 3 hours but then woke up and cried so I thought he might need to pee and he did, he peed twice and pooed. Was that right of me or should I have made him wait till 6 in the morning when we wake up? And will that happen for a while and how will I know when to stop

Try to make him wait a little longer each time until his system adjusts to your time frame, get him a cheap wind up alarm clock that ticks loud and place it near his bed, just for the ticking, no alarm. Or leave a raido or TV on for him ,
That is what I would do.

Take away water earlier at night.

How old is your puppy? What our trainer told us is that for every month old, they can hold it for an hour, up until about 6 hours. That seemed about right with Zoe. Once she started sleeping through the night though, she could hold it longer.
