Our second floor bathtub is leaking into our kitchen. How can we determine where the leak is coming from?

Hi Darlenezelazo...

Start by checking for an access panel behind the tub... if present open it, fill/drain the tub and observe for leaks.

If there is no access panel then I would have you start by removing the trim plate and handle from around the shower valve and then run the tub/shower and using a flashlight look in at the body of the valve as well as all around inside and see if you can observe anything at all...

Next, I would have you remove the trip lever assembly at the drain mechanism and check to be sure the seal between the tub and the overflow pipe is seated properly... if not straighten the seal and re-tighten the screws.

Finally, if all this fails then it is time to cut an access panel into the wall behind the tub and see what is happening. You can always save the cutout to put back, or if it doesn't come out in one piece Home depot or Lowe's make a great spring-loaded access panel for just these situations. The access panel can be wall papered or painted...

Start with the above... let me know if you have questions.
