We had our switch go out on our well. My husband replaced it and for a few minutes the water was brown and salty had to throw away ice cubes as they were salty, this corrected itself after letting the water run, now however water smells like rotten eggs now. I noticed 2 days later standing water 4-5 inches deep around well. There is no cap on the well could this have been over flow while the switch was broken or is this something I have to worry about.

Is your pump above ground or in the well?

Without actually seeing your well, it would seem that you must have something leaking to leave that much water around your well. I'd first look at the little pipe running to the switch that was replaced.

As far as water quality goes, you might want to simply let the pump run through an outdoor faucet for a few hours. Not a sure thing, but this will frequently clear out water problems from a well that went a few days without being used.
