Hi, my friend, the wife, gave birth to a daughter last year. She and her husband went on a trip to their country, where his family seems to have created a lot of problems between them, and he left promising to return two months later, while she continued her vacation. By the time she realized that things were seriously wrong, her dependent visa had expired. I am now trying to help her out in different ways, mainly by acquiring information that might be helpful to her. I am wondering if it is possible for him to have initiated divorce proceedings against her in her absence, and under the false pretext of spousal abandonment. If so, would there be an office that I (as a friend) or she can visit to ascertain whether such a filing has taken place?

PS: just clarifying: the wife plans to try to come here with her citizen baby daughter on a tourist visa.

OOps.. I assumed that this was a US site.. The country the couple resided in is the US. I live in the US, in Va, same as their state.

Thank you for any information you can help with.
