My TRAC OFF light came on, I could see the tach sort of surging. I was only driving 30 mph, but the tach was bouncing up. I stopped, turned the car off, let it set a second. I attempted to start it. It will turn over, but not fire. What's up? '02 Olds Alero 2.2

. Replace the platinum spark plugs (ACDelco only), if they have not been changed in the last 30,000 miles.

Watch out for improper connection of spark plug wires to spark plugs (especially along back side of engine) as this can cause on and off surging in your tach too especially in wet weather and when engine is under load (accelerating or climbing hills). This car eats up plugs and wires more often than other cars. Mechanics don't always get wires on properly on back side of engine due to tight space so watch out after you've had anything like this done. I own a 02 Alero w 3.4 140,000 km and have replaced wires and plugs twice already.

It only depends when you turn the key. Does it make a clicking sound when you turn it? If so, it's a starter problem.
