There's a cat here (two families live in one home.. us and a family of four with a dog and a cat. Up until the past week the cat has always used the litter box. But now suddenly (we just moved in to this place a month ago) she has taken to peeing RIGHT in front of our door on the concrete. I`m getting sick of getting up in the morning and walking out the door right into cat PEE. She is very old... around 15 or 16 years to be exact if not a little older. But she always seems to use her littler box except for now (she still does number 2 in the litter box) we have tried washing it with bleach, using bakingsoda afterwards to dull the smell even more but she won't stop... her owner says its her way of preventing our dog from coming into their house (as we all take the dogs out the same door into the back yard which is fenced in) though I don't see why because she didn't do this before and we`ve had the dog since November (we lived in the converted garage, now we live in the finished basement.) I`m getting sick of this and I don't know how much more I can take of changing my socks twice a day because of it, having to lightly shove my dog past the doorway (he won't cross over it unless you force him to) and it's the only way to take him outside as our entrance way is not finished being built yet. Does anyone else ever have this problem. If so what did you do

Tell your neighbor to take proper care of their cat and get it to the vet to make sure it's OK.. otherwise it could be behavioural and your cat has taken a dislike to you. Does your dog leave the cat alone?

It could be an age related thing, or a bladder infection that requires a vet visit. It's probably because she is bothered by something in the new place. Try putting a cat box near the door, a different one from her other box. In any case, she's making a statement.

Cats tend to make statements with their pee & poo. In the box, they bury it instinctively. On your doorstep, she's saying something. Don't step in it anymore, expect it. Try letting her have her own doorway, a window?

Try using soaking the spot with vinegar instead of baking soda. Most cats can't stand the smell of vinegar.

She's been to the vet they are just calling it old age... She has another litterbox and she uses that one too... and she still uses the other one too . The dog does leave her alone because he is scared of cats and either runs from them or freezes on the spot and won't move until it leaves. But if its because she is bothered by something new wouldn't she have done it when we first moved in and she was not able to get into the basement anymore... instead it was fine for a while then BAM it started... she has not done it in the last week though
