I have a broken clutch cable on my Craftsman lawn tractor. I found the part on the web, but not sure if this is a DIY replacement or if I can get instructions somewhere? Not even sure where to start.
Thanks

What is the number for your tractor, starts with 917. Xxxxx? I have not seen a cable for the clutch brake, the ones I have repaired employeed a linkage of rods. This type of work isusually right up the DIY alley.

The model # is 917272461
& according to Craftsman website the part needed is Cable clutch 42"
I know where it attaches up top on the "dashboard". But wasn't sure how to get at the attachment at the bottom.
Thanks

Here is your downloadable manual but I am on a remote site and can't open it. http://www.managemyhome.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0203049.pdf

Hi,
You have the link for the manual, but it does not tell you. I will post a picture. I am unable to tell you exactly where the lower cable casing (that is the outer sheath) will attach, but it should somewhere beneath the left-hand running board. The end of the spring will attach to the carriage bolt #146 through the moveable idler and be held in place by washer #150 and hairpin #45.
Peace,
Clarke

If I "rated" your question, it was by accident. Sorry... new to this site. I already have the manual, but unsure how it all goes together during replacement.
Sounds like this is something I can do myself.
Thanks for all your help!

I don't see any "rate the answer" button on any of your responses.
For what it's worth... Just know that I appreciate your help & efforts!

ttmmcc, I am not 100% up on all the rules for AMHD but I think you must have a certain number of posts before they allow you to start rating folks. When that finally happens you will see an orange box below my answer labeled Rate this Answer and then a bblue box to the right saying Quote User. When you can see these boxes you are then allowed to use them. Have a good one, Bob
