I have custody of my son and he goes to his dads everyother weekend. He doesn't visit one night a week because his dad is on the road out of town. First its not a good idea to piggyback your question on someone else's. This can lead to confusion. You should start a new thread. So I've moved your question to its own thread.

The rule is that whoever provides 51% of support get to claim the dependent. Generally the primary custodial parent gets to claim the child. However, parents often agree to alternate years especially if there is significant visitation or the NCP pays a large amount of support.
