A day before my high school graduation  I was caught shoplifting at sears! What I attempted to take was priced under $30... and today I went to court and it was only to receive a date for my actual trial and to state if I wanted a attorney, and I said "yes" of course... because even though it's a very small amount that was taken; I still want to protect my rights!. I really regret doing this now because I am suspose to attend college out of state this year and my trial is in Oct. and school starts in Aug. and I do not know what to do?! Should I sort this out with an attorney?. I have a clean record, never been suspended from school nor have I gotten into any trouble, this was my first and last time! I graduated from school with a 3.28 GPA... Very smart person but just made a very dumb mistake!! What is likely to happen to me for this?? ANy information will help! :o

Hire an attorney. Sometimes they can appear on your behalf, so you won't have to travel back from school. S/he may also be able to help negotiate some sort of deal for you, especially if this is your first offense.
