I just had to buy a new condenser motor for my unit. The NEW motor says that it needs a - 3 MFD +- 5%, 370 VAC Run Capacitor. The OLD motor was setup with a 45/5 MFD +-6%, 370 VAC Dual Capacitor which had a wire from the compressor and the fan wires. Do I just need to run a jumper to the 3 MFD form the old 5MFD Com terminal to make this work, or is there that big of a difference with the capacitors that I don’t need to use the 3MFD?
BTW… I need to replace the old 5MFD capacitor anyway so is there maybe another capacitor I should go with instead?

Leave the original dual capacitor where it is and alone,take off only the wires that go to the old motor
The new motot need the 3 MFD +-5% only
You probably have 2 brown wires, one solid--one brown /with white stripe
Land those 2 wires only (one on each side of the new capacitor
The other wires are to go to where the load is connected,probably to the contacter
Make sure the new motor is running in the correct direction,and the fan blade is on right

I should have noted that the new motor (like the old one) only has three wires - Black and the Orange going to the LINE, and then the Brown going to the capacitor then on to the Orange. This is what makes me think that the new capacitor (3MFD) needs the jumper from the old 5MDF capacitor to the terminal connected to the Orange on the new.

E.g. – the original wiring was Black – to the contactor, Brown – to the FAN terminal on the capacitor, Orange to the COM terminal which also had a Red wire coming form the contactor, and a Yellow from the compressor to the HERM terminal capacitor.

So now I'm thinking - Yellow stays put in to 5MFD cap, Red stays put…continue Red on from old cap terminal to new 3MFD cap terminal next to the Orange and Brown on the other new terminal. Black still to contactor.
Does that sound right?
