:confused:I have dual boot up, 98 and XP. I want to uninstall XP but keep 98. How is this done? 98 is on c:\, XP is on d:\, but boots up from c:\. I know I have to repartition d:\, but don't know how to get the boot back to 98. I read something on fdisk/mbr, but don't quite understand what the actual steps are on any of this. If I use fdisk/mbr will it wipe out my 98?

I haven't done this in awhile, so you may wish to make a full disk backup image first or confirm the following elsewhere. Fdisk /mbr'n should rewrite the MBR, but I think you'd still be stuck with the XP bootloader. Instead make a Win98 startup disk and SYS C: and then edit MSDOS.SYS if necessary to point the BootDrv and WinBootDir entries to the correct locations if not C: and C:\Windows. MSDOS.SYS is hidden, system, and readonly. These attributes need to be changed to use EDIT.COM (EXE?) on the file. The ATTRIB.COM (EXE?) and EDIT.COM (EXE?) commands may need to be manually copied to the startup disk in order to be able make the changes as I don't think the Win 98 startup disk wizard includes one or both on the disk.

in xp, start, run, type msconfig
-go to the boot.ini tab
-Look under [operating system]
-delete the line that refers to XP
