View Full Version : Residential water pressure fluctuation

Hello,

We have a vertical water tower in our housing addition that fluctuates pressure from 50psi to 150psi.

That has ballooned my water heater (gas) and caused it to leak. I replaced the water heater per code and am installing an overpressure bladder in series with the input cold supply to the water heater.

This over pressure bladder is a metal 1 gallon container with a rubber bladder inside. It has a 3/4 input in one end and a schrader valve on the other end.

I have put a 3/4 T on the input side but my question is: do I let some air out of the schrader valve? Do I add any air in the schrader valve? Or do I just leave the schrader valve alone?

Thanks

Hi

This is my 3rd attempt at posting this question, hope it works this time.

My housing addition uses a vertical water tank to supply pressure. The pressure fluctuates between 50 and 150 psi.

That fluctuation has blown my hot water heater once now. This house is 8 1/2 years old.

I replaced the water heater (gas) and am attempting to install an over pressure bladder in series with the cold supply line to the hot water heater.

The bladder is around a 1 gallon capacity metal container with a rubber bladder inside. It has a 3/4 inch input end and on the other side of the tank is a schrader valve. I put a T on the input side but I don't know if I need to do anything with the schrader valve.
Do I add air, release air as it fills with water, or just leave it alone?

Thanks

my question is: do I let some air out of the schrader valve? Do I add any air in the schrader valve? Or do I just leave the schrader valve alone? Your expansion tank came precharged with 40 PSI. I'd leave it be. Good luck, Tom
