I used the Salon Care Prism lites plus 30 volume crème and left it on for about 15 minutes. My overall color was lite blonde but my roots show some orange color combination. Did I use the right products? I have been going to a hairdresser but I am trying to cut my expenses by using over the counter hair products. Should I leave the product on longer or put more product on my roots? I hope you can help me figure out what I need to do.

Thanks,

Roots first, so that part will have the solution on longer.

If you were doing a full-head bleach out, you do the ends first and the 1/2" (2 cm) nearest the roots last. When you touch up, you should put bleach only on the roots. Leave it long enough to bleach to the proper color. Never pull bleach through to the ends.

Also, never go more than 8 weeks between touchups (6 weeks is preferred). Otherwise, you'll have two thermal regions to deal with:

Heat from the scalp will accelerate bleaching next to the scalp, but hair further from the scalp bleaches out more slowly. The result is that you'll end up with the roots being too light and you'll have a band of gold about 3/4" (15 mm) out from the scalp.

Salon Care Prism Lites is a hair bleach with toner in the bleach. You shouldn't continually bleach the ends with this product. It will damage the hair and cause breakage if you abuse your hair with it.
