I'm glad to know that the teacher is totally bogus. That's really important information.

I think that you're trying to simplify

\frac {x-5zy-6-20x}{8x-4y}=\frac {x-20x-5zy-6}{8x-4y}

Looking at the equation, there are three variables, x, y, and z. Because of the three variables, I can't see that you can simplify it very much. You could factor a 4 out of the denominator, but it won't divide into anything in the numerator so that won't help much.
