I have regular periods of 28 days cycle. The 1st day of my last normal period was on may 4, 2009 and it lasted for 7 days as is normal for me. On 16th may I had protected sex with my boyfriend. He used condoms. We had sex twice. Then on 30th may, we had sex again but this time it was unprotected. He withdrawed and put semen on my lower abdomen.
I had my period on 31st may which was 1 day early. After 2 and 1/2 days of heavy flow with clots, it totally stopped for about 24 hrs. then it started again but this time the bleeding was light.
Usually, 1st 3 days of my period contains heavy flow and then bleeding becomes light for the next 3/4 days. But never was it fully stopped in the middle of period since this.

Am I Pregnant?

As a nurse it doesn't sound like you are but you should take a home pregnancy test to be 100% sure. Heavy clotting is not the usual for female who has just conceived. The fact that you had a 24 hour break really does not signify anything. Some woman experience very light and almost brownish discharge (i.e. not fresh blood) when the first conceive. This is the cervix closing up and is normal. It does not sound to be the case with you.

I would suggest you go on a more reliable form of contraceptive like the pill or coil rather then condoms if you are regularly sexually active.

Thank you for you ans. But if I am pregnant, then isn't this too early for a home pregnancy test to detect? How can I be sure of such early pregnancy in case I am pregnant. Is withdrawing a good method for contraception?

Withdrawing is not a good method of contraception as before the male orgasm and ejaculation there is pre-seminal fluid (also known as pre-) that cause pregnancy. Small amounts of sperm are contained in this fluid. I would highly recommend you take the contraceptive pill.

There is varying home pregnancy kits on the market some claim to detect at the very first stage of contraception. The hormone released is known as Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) and your body starts producing it shortly after the fertilized egg implants itself on the lining of the uterus. Any good kit would now detect that hormone in your urine as it is coming up to 6 days since the 30th... when you had unprotected sex.

To be honest I sincerely doubt you are pregnant because you had a period. Brush this off as a lesson learned and don't rely on the withdrawal method as a safe form of contraceptive. I hope this has been of help :)

First of all Chanser, when was your last period and by that I mean the date it started? Have you had unprotected sex since it ended? The fact you are 16 not all girls periods are regular at that stage so the "pink stuff" you describe could be a light period and you may not be pregnant at all. Like I said a home pregnancy kit is really only the true answer.

As for smoking, the evidence shows that babies born to woman who smoke are more statistically smaller then the average baby and "after the 16th week of pregnancy has also been statistically proved to cause both mental and physical retardation in a small number of cases in late childhood" (Smoking during pregnancy (http://www.irishhealth.com/article.html?con=79))
