I had a child with my ex girlfriend a couple years ago. I've been struggling to pay my payments due to my illnesses. Asthma bad back. So I miss work a lot too. She has since moved on. And is well off. And has a home and car.I have nothing basically. No car. Barely can pay rent or eat. If I sign away my rights since I haven't seen my child in 4 years would I still have to pay child support?? I would much appreciate it if you could take the time to answer... thank you very much.

There are many threads on this topic. You may not just sign off your parental rights, and that doesn't get you out of child support as well as them continuing to collect for any arrearages.

It also doesn't excuse you not seeing your child in four years. If you want to understand why you are obligated to financial support the child, you should see him/her and know your child. You wouldn't be as willing to let them go without, if you loved/knew him/her.

Well, you will very likely not be allowed to sign your rights away unless she has remarried and her husband wants to adopt the child.

Other than that, no... you pay until the child is no longer a child.
